ganz her­vor­ra­gen­der text von chris­ti­an haw­key über die rhe­to­rik von ba­rak oba­ma. ei­gent­lich ein lan­ger, tol­ler text über ei­nen ein­zi­gen satz von ba­rak oba­ma: „Wir sind die­je­ni­gen, auf die wir ge­war­tet ha­ben.“

apro­pos ba­rak oba­ma und die kraft der wor­te. ich bin jetzt schon ei­ni­ge mo­na­te be­geis­tert von „bos­ton le­gal“ und nach drei staf­feln däm­mert mir lang­sam, dass das kei­ne an­walts­se­rie ist, son­dern eine fern­seh­sen­dung die ei­nem die kraft der rhe­to­rik vor au­gen führt. klingt pa­the­tisch, is­ses auch, aber die­se sen­dung zeigt ei­nem, dass es recht oder un­recht ei­gent­lich gar nicht gibt, son­dern nur gute oder schlech­te ar­gu­men­te.

fas­zi­nie­rend fin­de ich auch im­mer wie­der den be­zug zu ak­tu­el­len the­men. in staf­fel 3 (fol­ge 20 „gu­i­se’n dolls“) un­ter­hal­ten sich alan shore (AS) und den­ny cra­ne (DC) auf den­ny cra­nes bal­kon über ba­rak ob­ma­ma und hil­la­ry clin­ton:

AS: do you think you’re a ra­cist, den­ny?

DC: not … i don’t know.
DC: do you think it’s ra­cist to say a man sounds black?

AS: i think it’s more of­fen­si­ve to say street or ur­ban when the in­fe­rence is you mean black.

DC: so what do you say?

AS: well, ba­rack oba­ma re­fer­red to the black sound as a black idi­om more like jazz and less like a set score.

DC: they let him get away with that?

AS: evi­dent­ly.

DC: i might vote for him, you know?

AS: oba­ma?

DC: any­bo­dy in ame­ri­ca can grow up to be pre­si­dent. that’s what i say. ex­cept hil­la­ry. she wins, i puke.

DC: hand­so­me, gre­at pho­to op. i don’t know what he stands for. be a per­fect pre­si­dent. he speaks per­fect white as well as black. you never he­ard me say that.

AS: what about mc­cain?

DC: he speaks bush now. can’t win.

AS: oba­ma is against the war now, you know?

DC: so am i. it’s bor­ing. i’m re­a­dy for a new war. time to blow up iran. they got sad­dam. now they got­ta get imi­na dou­che bag. and that nut­job in north ko­rea. they both got­ta go. and not be­cau­se they’re not white.

AS: okay.
AS: den­ny, does it bo­ther you at all that ame­ri­ca is so ha­ted by teh rest of the world the­se days?

DC: well of cour­se it does, alan. just can’t plea­se ever­y­bo­dy. bet­ter to just --

AS: blow them up.

DC: exact­ly. and not be­cau­se they’re not white.
