  Bridging the In­die­Web Ge­ne­ra­ti­on Gap

A week or two ago Kevin Marks pointed the IWC channel to a must-read talk called Inessential Weirdness in Open Source given by Sumana Harihareswa at OSCON this year. Weirdnesses are quirks of your project, community, or culture that might intimidate/discourage newcomers. Essential weirdnesses are foundational; without them, you'd be doing a different thing. Inessential weirdnesses are everything else, losing them might slow you down or make it less fun, but it wouldn't change any fundamental aspect of the project. She makes a point of saying that inessential doesn't mean unimportant or bad - your weird tools (ahem, git) help you get stuff done; jargon is useful shorthand; in-jokes are part of a group's culture.

Stünde es nicht im Grundgesetz, wäre die Aussage "Die Würde des Menschen ist unantastbar" heute wohl als "linksextrem" eingestuft.

Application Cache is- as Jake so infamously described -not a good API. It was specced and shipped before developers had a chance to figure out what they really needed, and so AppCache turned out to be frustrating at best and downright dangerous in some situations. Its over-zealous caching combined with its byzantine cache invalidation ensured it was never going to become a mainstream technology. There are very few use-cases for AppCache, but I think I hit upon one of them. Six years ago, A Book Apart published HTML5 For Web Designers. A year and a half later, I put the book online.

heu­te mal wie­der aus herr paul­sens [-wer­be­link] deutsch­land ve­ge­ta­risch „ge­kocht“. an­füh­rungs­zei­chen, weil ich die gur­ken­sup­pe (na­tür­lich) nicht ge­kocht habe, son­dern ge­mixt. die sup­pe pass­te su­per zum wet­ter, war an­ge­nehm er­fri­schend und fruch­tig. al­ler­dings war sie viel grü­ner als im koch­buch, was dar­an lie­gen könn­te, dass stevan paul die sup­pe ohne gur­ken­scha­le oder mit viel we­ni­ger kräu­tern im mi­xer zu­be­rei­tet hat als ich.

in den mi­xer habe ich eine zur hälf­te ge­schäl­te (bio) gur­ke, 400 gramm sau­re sah­ne, 2 tee­löf­fel schar­fen senf, eine di­cke hand­voll vor­ge­häck­sel­ter pe­ter­si­lie, et­was nor­ma­le kres­se (im re­zept steht 70 gramm bach­kres­se) und ei­nen tee­löf­fel lein­öl ge­stopft und kräf­tig und lan­ge ge­mixt. vor dem ser­vie­ren habe ich noch­mal ei­nen gros­sen eis­wür­fel un­ter­ge­mixt.

dann noch 200 gramm hüt­ten­kä­se mit ei­nem bund klein­ge­schnit­te­nem schnitt­lauch ver­mi­schen — ich hab gleich noch 4 bis 6 in stif­te ge­schit­te­nen ra­dies­chen un­ter­ge­rührt, al­les ge­sal­zen und ge­pfef­fert und den hüt­ten­kä­se in die sup­pe reinde­ko­rie­ren. die bei­fah­re­rin hat sich noch kres­se drauf­ge­schnip­selt, ich hab kräf­tig nach­ge­pfef­fert.

dazu passt ne schei­be voll­korn­brot mit but­ter und salz.

vor­ges­tern habe ich be­merkt, dass der theawl.com-RSS-feed jetzt auch wie­der voll­text an­zeigt — nach­dem theawl.com kürz­lich zu me­di­um.com mi­griert ist, funk­tio­nier­te das für eine wei­le nicht. heu­te lese ich in der an­kün­di­gung, dass su­per­feedr.com von me­di­um ge­kauft wur­de, dass das jetzt auch für alle alle me­di­um-nut­zer funk­tio­niert. das ist eine gute nach­richt. ob es eine gute nach­richt ist, dass su­per­feedr von me­di­um auf­ge­kauft wur­de, weiss ich nocht nicht. es ist aber wohl so, dass in letz­ter zeit ei­ni­ge leu­te die dem of­fe­nen netz und dem in­die­web na­he­ste­hen, zu me­di­um ge­gan­gen sind, in fest­an­stel­lung.

wenn me­di­um jetzt noch ech­te RSS-syn­chro­ni­sa­ti­on an­bie­ten wür­de (wie face­book mit in­stant ar­tic­les), mit der ich mei­ne ar­ti­kel au­to­ma­tisch ak­tua­li­sier­bar in me­di­um schau­feln könn­te, wür­de ich dort auch alle mei­ne in­hal­te ver­öf­fent­li­chen.
